Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday paid homage to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary, lauding him as a man of humility, wisdom, and quiet dignity.

In a post on social media X, Kharge described Singh as a “gentle architect of India’s economic transformation”, noting that his vision of economic reforms opened doors for opportunity, created a thriving middle class, and lifted countless families out of poverty. “He carried himself with quiet dignity, letting his actions speak louder than his words,” Kharge wrote.

Kharge also highlighted Singh’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity, saying that the former PM ensured that India’s growth went hand in hand with welfare measures benefiting millions. “His leadership showed us that integrity in public life is not just possible, but powerful. For generations of Indians, he will remain an enduring symbol of honesty, intellect, and selfless service to the nation,” he added.

Born on September 26, 1932, Manmohan Singh was an eminent economist who served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He also served as Finance Minister between 1991 and 1996, playing a pivotal role in implementing landmark economic reforms. Singh’s government introduced initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA, later MGNREGA) and the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005, enhancing transparency and social welfare.
